Anne and Ian Lennox bowed out of North Ayrshire Ice Hockey at the end of the season, and now have the Volunteer of the Year award on their mantlepiece to boot.
The couple have played a large part in introducing hundreds of children to ice hockey over the years, and Ayrshire Weekly Press group editor Caroline Paterson said that they were worthy winners.
Anne said: “It is thanks to all the people at North Ayrshire Ice Hockey they have done tremendously well
Ian said: The big kick we got out of it was the pleasure the young kids got in starting ice hockey. A lot of the parents told us that they had noted very significantly that the children had gained more confidence, the kids blossomed really given the right tuition and inspiration.
Ian, nicknamed Papa Duck, added: “The under 8s, the team we looked after, was called ‘The Ducks’ , and so the name stuck, although it is more Grandpa and Granny Duck!’
Anne looked after the children off the ice, and Ian on the ice.
