The Arran High School Campus were the only overseas winners at the North Ayrshire Sports Awards, but their achievements have certainly travelled beyond the confines of an island.
The campus, also incorporating Lamlash Primary, offers 25 individual sports including futsal, trampoline, dance, swimming triathlon, non-stop cricket, dodgeball, and ‘Heady Handball’.
Ailie McPherson said: “Being an island, it is important to bring sport to the community. Everyone knows everyone else because it is an island, and it means we all stick together. It is a total thrill to win.”
Children and young people participate in a number of ‘off island’ tournaments provided by Active Schools, governing bodies and community clubs.
The award celebrates the hard work of the young people and staff in providing such a range of opportunities. Pictures on Twitter showed the winners with their award on the ferry home the next morning.
