Millport Curling Club held their Christmas Bonspiel on 13 December at Greenacres curling rink with 24 members taking part.

The winning rink was skipped by Jimmy Lochridge and the runners up skipped by Janie Cameron. A good time was had by all.

The first written note of Millport Curling Club was in 1838 at the founding of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club.

The first President was John Wishart from a report of a meeting held in the Kelburne Arms. The bothy was built by William Wishart about 1845. In these early years curling on Cumbrae was run less formally but from 1925 the Curling Club has flourished.

The club has been and remains active in many competitions organised by the Argyll Province and the Royal Club.

If you fancy giving the roaring game a shot, Millport Curling Club invite you to come along to one of their practice days at Greenacres Ice Rink and "have a go".

On rare occasions when it gets particularly cold, the islanders sometimes get the opportunity to participate in curling on the Isle of Cumbrae itself.

On a somewhat soggy Sunday 1st October many members , families and friends squeezed into the bothy at the Curling Pond to enjoy the annual start of the curling season BBQ . The rain stopped and started - and stopped and started - and stopped .....and then lo and behold a wee blink of sunshine during which President Fergus Boyle closed the valve in the pond . The pond then filled and it is hoped that Jack Frost ,in his wisdom , will see fit to visit and give the island some good curling ice !
