The Semple Centre in Fairlie is one of the hidden gems in the village, and is well used by a number of local groups.

Secretary Maggie Telfer is hoping that more groups can use the Main Street facility which celebrates the memory of Dugald Semple - a Scottish advocate of' simple living', a naturalist and prolific author.

The premises are now used by the bridge club, a meditation group, the snooker club and a community singing group.

It is also the venue for the art club and Fairlie resident groups.

Maggie said: "We feel that these premises are a tremendous asset so the village community. We are therefore keen to have new ideas for additional uses of the centre.

"Thanks to support from Fairlie Community Trust we have been able to refurbish our existing snooker table and purchase a new one. The centre will from now on be open for playing snooker Monday to Friday from 2-4pm. Other times may be available by prior arrangement."
