Sir Chris Hoy visits Largs

Some very lucky members of Largs Boys Brigade met cycling sensation Sir Chris Hoy in a surprise visit to Inverclyde Sports Centre in Largs.

The quadruple Olympic gold medalist spent the day at the SportScotland National Centre as he took part in the first ever Highland Spring Sports Day recently.

Fifty children from all over Scotland attended the event and took part in an action packed day of sporting activities including mountain biking, tennis, golf, gymnastics, team building and fitness exercises.

Twelve boys attended from 1st Largs Boys Brigade, accompanied by Officer Mrs. Bridie Lamont.

Chris was on hand to oversee the mountain biking sessions and provide invaluable one-to-one advice and motivation for the excited participants.

Commenting on the event, Mrs. Lamont who met Sir Chris Hoy with the Boys commented 'What a great day for the boys, meeting sports stars and the opportunity to participate in a range of sports with other children from all over Scotland'.

Claire Wilson, marketing manager of Highland Spring said: 'Our first sports day was a tremendous success. All of the children who took part had a fantastic experience and were delighted to meet two of Scotland"s leading sports stars. Their presence on the day really motivated the children and ensured they all gave 100% effort when taking part in the activities.

'The facilities and staff at Inverclyde are first class and enabled us to develop a multi- sport programme which allowed the children to try out of lots of different sports, many of which they hadn"t tried before.'

In addition Scottish athlete Lee McConnell was on hand to lead the fitness sessions.

Both Sir Chris and Lee also took part in a lively Question & Answer session where children got the chance to ask them all about their successful careers and training regime.
