Largs Thistle boss Sandy MacLean is hoping to build on the club’s victory over Partick Thistle Under 19s, but the club face injury problems as they look for their first league win on Saturday.

It is a 2pm kick-off at Barrfields as Thistle look to get back on track in the Stagecoach First Division against Irvine Vics after only collecting one point in three matches, and scoring one goal.

Sandy said: “We are looking for any win on Saturday, it doesn’t matter if is a bad performance or a dodgy decision which seals it, getting three points is all that matters for us,” said the Thistle gaffer.

Defensively, Largs are missing Alan Gilbride who is on holiday, as well as Barry McLaughlin who is suspended. Creag Little featured for ten minutes in the 2-1 victory over Partick, and is expected to return from injury this weekend. “We plan to see how he reacts at training, as he was absolutely itching to come on against Partick,” said Sandy.

Defender Mark Murray is out for another four weeks with a groin problem. Striker Sean Pierce is expected to be out for another two weeks after last featuring against Kilbirnie in August.

Midfielder Barry Stanton is back after suspension, while midfielder Glenn Thomson has a back complaint, and Willie McClure also picked up a knock after scoring against Partick after a long throw from Iain Fisher. McLaughlin was also on the scoresheet at the weekend in a useful friendly, where the young Partick side proved to a combative outfit, but Largs had enough chances to seal a greater win.

Sandy commented: “We created a lot of chances and we should have won a lot more handsomely, but it was a good game.” Thistle also have ex-midfielder Scott Keogh as a trialist for three games and he could feature in midfield this weekend at some stage against Irvine Vics, which is a hugely important match after two defeats in a row at home.

Sandy said: “We need to put points on the board and it is not going to be easy judging from reports about Irvine Vics who sound a very decent side. If we treat them lightly, the will turn against us. At the moment, points are more important to us than performances, so we could have to battle.” Largs welcome back Sean Lawrence after he was missing on Saturday due to work commitments.

Sandy openly said: “I will take the points and a rubbish performance if that happens to be the case, whether it is a dodgy decision from the ref, or a lucky goal. We have been playing well for parts of games, but it is important we put in a shift for the full 90 minutes.”
