histle put in an astounding performance to turn over title chasing Pollok on their own patch - and secure a big step towards safety in the Stagecoach First Division.

It was the home side who started on fire. Immediately from kick-off. McCann’s strike from the halfway line forced Largs keeper Ross Lundy into a stretching save over the bar, as Pollok won a corner within ten seconds of play.

Ex-Dundee United forward Robbie Winters teed up his brother David who wriggled away from his man before turning a twelve yard effort off the right post, and was cleared to safety.

Thistle forced the issue in the second half with their relentless attacking play, reaping dividends when Glenn Thomson’s corner on the left was met by the towering Creag Little who nodded the ball into the top right hand corner on 53 minutes.

And then followed one of the saves of the season as David Winters broke through on the right and his curling 12 yard drive seemed certain to hit the back of the net but Lundy darted out of nowhere to get a strong hand to push the ball away to safety.

Alan Frizzell was the architect of the second goal on 66 minutes as he turned his man on the right wing, and galloped through to hit a fast paced cross which was slammed home by the onrushing Thomson from six yards.

It was a fantastic team performance for Thistle who are now unbeaten in six, and have scored 13 goals in their last three games, as for Pollok, after a good first half, they ran out of steam in the second half, and were well beaten in the end.
