Largs Tennis Club enjoyed a good start to club nights with a decent turnout and plenty of games played.

Chairman Fiona Page picked the doubles teams during 20 minute games throughout the evening which was played in sunshine and breezy conditions. The recent new membership initiative also resulted in a number of new players coming along to Douglas Park on Monday, and last Thursday during a men’s training session. Club nights, open to all, take place at Douglas Park every Monday, starting at 6pm.

The league matches got underway last week for the Largs Ladies, with the first team, captained by Lesley MacLellan, narrowly losing out 5-4 with an opening game in the top league at Prestwick 1. Sarah MacLellan and Nancy Bunyan lost in straight sets, Lesley MacLellan and Hazel Koerner lost 2-1 and Janie McKenzie and Mary Lundy won 2-1.

The Largs Ladies 2, skippered by Linda Cowden, lost six sets to three and were unable to field a full side, with only two pairings. Claire Byers and Chris Reekie won in straight sets, while Alison Bruce and Tiara lost.

This week, Largs Ladies 1 team earned a draw at Troon on a grey Wednesday night.

Nancy Bunyan and Sarah MacLellan lost 3 sets, Hazel Koerner and Lesley MacLellan won 2-1, and Mary Lunday and Anne Armstrong won 2-1.

Largs Gents open their account this week as the first team, captained by Andy Auld, visit Ayr Carrick on Thursday evening. Largs Gents 2, skippered by Andy Jones, play at home on Thursday night to Kilmarnock 3, and travel to Stewarton 3 on Friday evening.
