Local coach, Ryan Bunyan, has stepped in to take over the junior coaching at Largs Tennis Club. Ryan is a member of the club with an LTA Level 1 coaching qualification. He came up through the ranks at the club and after a break to pursue other sporting interests he returned to tennis and represented Largs Academy in the Scottish Secondary Schools Team Championships during his 5th and 6th year. He plays for the Gents 2nd team at the club. Ryan has a lot of coaching experience through Largs Community Sport and Leisure Club (Saturday Morning Club) at at sportscotland Inverclyde Sports Centre.

Coaching will commence at Douglas Park on Tuesday 6th May- P1-P4 at 4pm and P4-P7 at 5pm Please note that due to University exams Ryan may have to alter coaching times on 13th May.

* Game, Wet and Match! ... Largs Gents tennis 2nd team overcame blustery and wet conditions to see of Stewarton 3 last Friday night, and secure their first victory of the season. And Largs Tennis Club’s new tennis coach played a valuable part.

Playing on Stewarton’s all weather courts, Ryan Bunyan, and captain Andy Jones, adapted to the conditions well and won at second pairing, with an opening set 7-5, before running away with the second set 6-1, and next secured the third, while Crawford Boyd and Colin Campbell also won in straight sets.

Largs 2 won overall by six sets to three, after Calum Corral and Alan McEwing lost out in straight sets at first pairing.

Largs Gents first team on Thursday evening secured a draw at Ayr Carrick in Division Two after a close encounter played in very different conditions. Starting off in blazing sunshine, Malcolm McAulay and Lewis McAulay won in straight sets, while Andy Auld (captain) and Derek Ballantyne lost 2-1, and Calum Corral and Jim McGee narrowly lost out 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), 3-6, and squandered two match point opportunities.

Largs Ladies first team also secured a draw at Troon on Wednesday evening in Division One. Nancy Bunyan and Sarah MacLellan lost in straight sets, Hazel Koerner and Lesley MacLellan won 2-1 and Mary Lunday and Anne Armstrong won 2-1. Largs Ladies 2nd team didn’t have a match.
