The long awaited conclusion to the Largs tennis season - the Gents Doubles final trophy - headed down the A78 to Fairlie after a thrilling three set encounter last Sunday.
It was billed as a match between Largs versus Fairlie as Gavin McLellan and Crawford Boyd of Largs took on Malcolm McAulay and Calum Corral of Fairlie.
However, there were further Fairlie connections with former Hearts and Queen of the South football Crawford Boyd now living in Fairlie, and Gavin, a former resident and Fairlie Tennis Club member.
The match had been delayed nearly two months due to a leg injury sustained by Gavin in his last Ayrshire Masters fixture of the season, but with protective strapping, he partnered wiley veteran Crawford, and they swept to a comfortable 6-3 in the opening set at Inverclyde Sports Centre.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:
A change of tactics in the 2nd set saw Calum play a more attacking volleying style, and with Malcolm's forehand on song, there was to be a rapid turnaround in fortunes, as the Fairlie duo gained momentum to break Gavin in the first game of the second set, and quickly advance to a 3-0 lead. The rallies were high quality at times with some polite applause from the spectators, and Calum and Malcolm pushed on to win the second set 6-2.
An early break in the third set gave the Fairlie team a two game cushion, but twice on Malcolm's serve, they had to claw their back from 0-30 and 15-40 down, before going on to clinch the trophy 6-2 in the decider.
The final score certainly didn't tell the full story and was competitively played throughout, and a fitting finale to the tennis season played in glorious sunshine.
