Largs Thistle U19’s 4 Kilwinning U19’s 2

Largs welcomed Kilwinning U19’s as the visitors for this match played at Bowencraig.

Thistle were quick on the attack with Largs forcing three corners in a row and Jay Little scoring a fine goal direct from the third corner within five minutes.

Largs were in a determined mood and by keeping the opposition defence under pressure forced an error between their defender and goalkeeper and Jack Petrie was on hand to pass the ball into the empty net on the 10 minute mark.

With Thistle dominating from the start the third goal came from a good shot from Jack Rafferty which was beaten away by the Kilwinning goalkeeper but Lloyd Dicks was on hand to fire the ball home to make it 3-0 in 25 minutes.

Kilwinning were rarely troubling Thistle but their speedy forward did get a goal back running past the defence to make the score 3-1 on the half hour mark. The goal gave the visitors hope and indeed they could have had a second when they headed just over the Thistle crossbar.

Jack Petrie then found himself through one on one with the keeper and looked set to score but was caught in two minds and the chance was gone. Half-time 3-1.

Kilwinning came out in the second half determined to make a game of it and had the Thistle defence under pressure for large periods of the game but the hardworking midfield and defensive units were doing well holding them out. Largs brought on subs Cessur Chakar and Ross Colquhoun which brought fresh legs to the team, the game had alternating attacks from both teams and with eight minutes to go Ross Colquhoun coolly side footed his shot through the packed opposition defence to put the result out of reach, 4-1 Thistle.

Kilwinning were not finished yet though and did manage a consolation goal just before full time 4-2 to Largs.

Another good performance from the whole Thistle team showing great determination and positive attitude especially the first half.

Thistle would like to thank everyone that is turning out to support the team including our midfielder Ross MacKay who is making good progress with his injury.

Thistle U19’s would like to thank Cumbrae Builders, Fitquick Motors, Costa Coffee, and Sutherland Roofing for their sponsorship support.
