Giffnock Roma U19’s 1 Largs Thistle U19s 4

Largs travelled to Giffnock St Ninnian’s Astro to play their latest league match.

Thistle started very well with Captain Jay Little playing a through pass to Lloyd Dicks but the ref blew up for offside. Jack Traynor set off on one of his trademark forward runs and he drove a great angled shot into “the corridor of uncertainty” as described by player Jack Petrie, causing panic in the Giffnock defence and the ball ended up in the net. 1-0 Largs within 10 minutes.

Thistle were attacking constantly now and playing with great determination and the second goal soon followed when Jay Little scored with a powerful drive. Largs had various attempts on goal with Finlay Templeton and Lloyd Dicks going close. Jay Little floated a great free kick into the penalty area and it was met by defender Adam Ogilvie who headed the ball high into the net to make it 3-0. Giffnock did get a goal back just before half-time with a scrambled effort that hit the post and went in past goalkeeper Adam McElroy 3-1.

The second half began with Giffnock determined to make a game of it and they were attacking Thistle for long periods of the half but a combination of the resolute defence of MacColl, Reid,McGill,Traynor,Ogilvie, and Mathew Ashe who all had a good game, together with poor finishing kept the opposition at bay. Largs brought on subs Jack Petrie,Cesur Chakar, and Ryan Evans who all contributed to the team. Ross MacColl took a heavy tackle and had to be replaced with Jack Petrie.

Jay Little was unlucky not to score when his well driven shot hit the inside of the post and was cleared away. Ross Colquhoun was pressing the opposition defence and causing problems even though he was not 100% fit. Largs did have various chances from Jack Traynor and Lloyd Dicks both seeing their shots go just wide. The fourth goal eventually came from an accurate corner from Jay Little, that was taken well by Finlay Templeton to head a deserved goal for his overall good display.

So 4-1 to Thistle, this was a very good, determined display from Largs both from an attacking point of view in the first half, and a good defensive display in the second half . Well done lads keep it going………
