Cameron Thistle U19’s 0 Largs Thistle U19s 2

Table toppers Largs travelled to Nethercraigs in Glasgow to play Cameron Thistle who are currently sitting fourth in the league.

The last time the teams met at Bowencraig, Cameron Thistle ran out 4-2 winners the only defeat Thistle have had in the league this season.

The game was played on grass which was very heavy due to the recent wet weather, not ideal conditions for passing football. Thistle were quick on the attack with Finlay Templeton opening the scoring with the important first goal and his shot beat the opposition goalkeeper to put Thistle one up in the first half.

At the other end Largs goalkeeper Adam McElroy had to make a spectacular save to prevent the Glasgow team who were pushing forward and trying to get back into the game.

Jay Little and influential Captain Adam Paterson McKeen along with Jack Rafferty were controlling midfield, both with their competent defending and driving runs forward. The defensive unit also stood firm following the departure of injured Mathew Ashe who had a solid game, with McElroy having an excellent performance both with good saves and marshalling his back four.

Caleb Reid the big Thistle striker scored the second when he received a cut back from Cesur Chakar and his low shot beat the opposition goalkeeper to make it 2-0 to Thistle. This was a very physical game against a good Glasgow side but the young Largs team rolled up their sleeves and battled hard for their three points showing plenty of character. Thistle brought on their substitutes in the second half and all made valuable contributions to the team.

Credit to the Glasgow side for not giving up and indeed forced the Largs keeper McElroy into saving on several occasions to keep a clean sheet. This was an excellent result away from home from all the Thistle team showing great determination and a positive mental attitude, both in scoring goals and an impressive display in defence.

Enjoy the Christmas break team, come back committed in the New Year for the league title challenge.
