"We are one of the form teams in the league, and we're going to Pollok with confidence."

These are the words of Largs assistant boss Kevin Struthers as the Barrfields side aim to upset the odds in the big McBookie.com Premier clash on Saturday, 1.45pm kick-off.

"Newlandsfield Park is one of my favourite junior grounds," said Kevin, "I love going there. It has a good old fashioned football atmosphere.

"We fancy our chances - and if we can get another three points - that would be the perfect Christmas gift for Thistle fans."

There is a big travelling support expected at the game, and Largs are full of confidence after their best display of the season, but points on Saturday are essential.

And Largs have been boosted by the arrival of former Kilbirnie boss Stephen Swift who joined the coaching team last week.

Kevin said: "Swifty said to the players after the Hurlford game that he couldn't believe Largs were in bottom position as from what he has seen, we can be a match for anyone.

"Swifty can see what we are capable of, and it was good for the boys to hear. Everyone stuck to their task and it was great to come away with a clean sheet."

And asked about holding on to exciting 18 year old Morton ace Alec McWaters, whose loan spell is up at the end of the year, Kevin said: "I have known Alec a long time and even as a kid he had so much ability, and he has adapted really well to the junior scene. For sure, we will be looking to hold on to him beyond Christmas. He is a flair player but very hard working."

Forward Robert Love is back from suspension, but midfielder Gary Fleming still has one game to serve after his red card against Troon.
