Largs Thistle boss Stuart Davidson has said his team must be ready to take advantage of any slip-ups by their relegation rivals as they await their final league tie against Auchinleck.

Thistle are sitting in second bottom spot in the relegation zone, and require a better points total than both Kilwinning and Troon, who have a superior goal difference, to secure a play-off spot.

Stuart said: "We are not mathematically down and other teams have a lot of football still to play. I believe both Kilwinning and Troon have the quality to go and win the games they need, but there is a lot of pressure, and we just have to sit back and see what happens. If there are any slip-ups, we have to be ready to make it up."

The lack of match action means that a couple of injuries have had time to clear up, and with regular training sessions, Stuart is planning some friendly games to keep the club ticking over with the big Talbot clash on the horizon.

Stuart insisted: "We want to give a good account of ourselves against Auchinleck as after all, this was why we got promoted to the Premier League, to bring teams like Talbot to Largs. If we can get a result against Auchinleck, you never know, there may be a chance of two more play-off games, and it is important we are ready for all possibilities. Troon and Kilwinning have hard games on paper such as Auchinleck and Rob Roy, so you never know. Kilwinning also have Pollok and Arthurlie to play, and they might not have as much to play for as we played them earlier in the season.

"It would be good to get a Saturday home game against Auchinleck allowing us to get a good crowd at Barrfields to cheer on the team."

Reflecting on the recent 3-2 defeat at Beith, Stuart said: "It was a couple of lapses in concentration which cost us, but I can't fault the boys for their effort. It is important to score the first goal in these games, and Beith have the quality players who can hurt you in the final third, and we got punished. From their point of view it was great finishes, and they don't mess about in the box, but I feel we could have defended better. Glenn Thomson did well after replacing Kevin Struthers who had a calf injury, and his goal was a cracker. James Marks also had a great finish and chasing the ball down."

So far Largs have signed keeper Ross Lundy, and defenders Iain Fisher, Laurie McMaster, Creag Little, Nicky Jamieson and Matthew Ashe for next season, with talks set to continue with the other players.
