Largs Thistle midfield maestro Graham Muir is returning to Barrfields Park next season after signing up on Monday evening.

The former club captain, nicknamed by supporters as 'Ya Ya Muiry', revealed the news on social media and said he was delighted to be returning after playing a valuable role in two of Thistle's promotions to the Premier in recent seasons.

Muir signed up for Irvine Meadow last season, but his midfield presence has been sorely missed at Barrfields, providing a goalscoring threat from midfield, and is a 'box to box' player. Graham is a popular figure around Barrfields, and has also represented Scotland at international futsal.

He said: "I am delighted to say that I have agreed a deal to return to Largs for next season. I re-signed on Monday night and can't wait to get started."

Largs are believed to be looking at number of potential signings, with pre-season friendlies starting up in mid-July.

But whether Thistle can hang on to James Marks, who has been an important goalscorer for over the years at Barrfields, is in doubt after the forward signalled that he was leaving Largs by text message to the club management. He was subbed near the end of Monday night's contest to a round of applause from the crowd, and shook manager Stuart Davidson's hand.

Speaking to the 'News' after Monday night's game, Stuart was keeping his cards close to this chest on Marks' future, and said he was still to speak directly with the player.

Looking towards next season, the manager said: "There is a couple of players we are looking at who we hope to announce in the next week once it is all tied up. There is a good core of the team that will be there next season. There have been positives, and younger players have matured. We want to come back up to the Premier League next season. Maybe that inconsistency throughout the season cost us.

"That was our first draw of the season against Auchinleck. If we had managed to pick up a few points here and there, we might have managed to stay up, but we didn't and we just need to deal with that.

Reflecting on the match, Stuart said: "It was a better game than I thought it would be - it was very competitive and both teams wanted to win. It was played in good spirits, and I thought the boys put in a lot of effort and some of their play was great; we were unlucky not to get the three points. Both teams had chances, you just have to take them on the day. It was an evenly matched contest."
