Largs Thistle boss Stuart Davidson has said his team will be well prepared for Saturday’s first league game against Maryhill on Saturday, and won’t be paying attention to the bookies odds.
William Hills have installed Largs as joint favourites for the First Division title at 9/2 with Petershill.
However, the Barrfields gaffer is more concerned with getting off to three points in the league opener this Saturday, 2pm kick-off at Barrfields Park.
Stuart said: “The bookmakers always have their favourites but this league is going to have so many contenders. There will be plenty of teams with their eye on winning the title and promotion. I wouldn’t read too much into it, and I certainly won’t be putting a bet on!”
“We have played a lot of games at Barrfields recently and played well with some good results. However, I believe other teams tend to raise their game on our surface, so we must be ready for the threat that Maryhill possess. With the pre-season over, this is where the real competitive action gets underway.
“Our last game at Barrfields against Beith was a wee bit frustrating in the end up as I felt we had done enough to win the game. We didn’t play our best when we were 2-0 up and let them back in to get to 2-2, but the boys showed good character to go 3-2 up. It was a great test against a high quality side, and we gave them a wee scare.
“A lot of people pay attention to the results in the Ardagh Cup but it is unwise to do that as a lot of teams are still finding form, and sorting out team selection. There is a noticeable step up in competitiveness when the league section starts, and I expect a tough game from Maryhill who are a good side.”
