Largs Thistle 8 Hurlford United 0

Largs progressed to the semi-final of the Presidents Cup with a comfortable win at a windy Barrfields.

Not having played for a month, it took Largs seventeen minutes to open the scoring when left back Greg Kean cut into the penalty area and fired the ball high into the top right corner.

With rotating subs Thistle made five changes on the half hour mark and, shortly after, two of the new players combined to double the lead. A corner into the feet of Reece Allen was laid it into the path of Cameron Ferguson to fire home.

Lee McShane made it three, two minutes later, when a crisp passing move just outside the penalty area resulted in him sliding the ball under the advancing keeper.

Allen made it three goals in a five minute spell when he rose superbly to head home a Kean corner.

Thistle made it five just before have time when Jamie Grant was released into the penalty area before making no mistake from 12 yards.

Ferguson notched his second and the first goal of the second half when he again combined with Allen before calmly slotting home.

Largs continued to press and Robert Jack made it seven when a sweeping Largs move found him on his own at the back post to calmly apply the finish.

The biggest cheer of the day came with the last kick of the game. Thistle made it eight when Ross Devine fired home his first goal ever from the penalty spot.

Manager Ally Burns said: “We were bit rusty, not having a game for some time, but it was good to give all the boys an hour and there were promising signs ahead of next weekend’s game against Irvine Meadow”
