After the instability of the season before, Sandy McLean took the reins at Largs Thistle in the Stagecoach West First Division as the club aimed for promotion.

Finishing the league on 43 points, Thistle"s away form resulted in only two defeats throughout the season, but it took Largs until December to gain their second home win as their form at Barrfields was indifferent throughout.

The loss of valuable points at home in the run-up to Christmas meant Thistle were relying on their impressive away form to keep their promotion chances in check. Victories at Maryhill and Troon did just that but again the disappointing home form returned as Largs" promotion hopes frittered away, despite two heroic home victories against Rob Roy and Maryhill. Loss of points to East Kilbride, Kilwinning and Renfrew, all sides they beat on their travels earlier in the season, plus a 5-0 mauling to Kilbirnie, meant Thistle fizzled out of the promotion race.
