Largs Thistle have carried on training throughout the big freeze and have some new signings on their books as they prepare for 2010 in the top flight of Junior football.

The Barrfields side signed Gary Phillips from Auchinleck Talbot to provide further strength in the middle of the park. Gary is a left sided midfield player and is described by manager Sandy MacLean as 'an old-fashioned winger' who was previously with Morton. Long serving Largs player Stuart Hendren has been transferred to one of his first clubs, Johnstone Burgh. Hendren has had two spells with the Barrfields club but played a lesser role last season due to his training to become a policeman. Defender Robert Burgess is still on the transfer list after being unable to commit to the Barrfields club due to work and family commitments.

Meanwhile, Thistle have also signed midfielder Gary Stewart from Gourock Athletic. Gary was also previously with Morton and had a spell at Port Glasgow Juniors.

Largs trained on Monday and Wednesday of this week and are due to play a friendly against a Greenock Morton XI on Tuesday January 5 at Battery Park, Greenock. 6.30pm kick-off. Their next league fixture is due to take place on Saturday January 9. Skipper Ross McMillan is suspended for this game and resumed training on Monday after a back injury against Bellshill.

Thistle play Bonnyrigg Rose in the third round of the Emirates Scottish Cup on Saturday January 16. Bonnyrigg featured in the senior Scottish Cup after winning the East Premier League last year but were knocked out by Fraserburgh in an earlier round. They beat Broxburn 4-0 in the last round of the Emirates Junior Cup and gained a creditable draw against Newtongrange Star in their last league fixture on December 5. They beat Maud in the first round of the Emirates Cup 12-0.
