Largs Thistle, who have a playing pool made up of largely Greenock based players, took on their local side in a so called friendly at Barrfields Park on Saturday.
However, the tackles were flying in towards the end of the first half in what was a good competitive work out for Sandy MacLean's side who moved up the gears in the second half to oust their awkward opponents.
Keeper Stephen Connick was tested early as he had to dive to his left to shove a Kevin Docherty free kick around the post. Largs looked certain to score midway through the first half as winger Gary Phillips galloped clear with just the keeper to beat but he took too long and was denied by a good challenge by Michael Docherty.
Thistle's best move of the first half opened up the Greenock rearguard as Craig Black placed a good cross into the box which was met by incoming midfielder Alan Barnes who curled the ball around the right post from good positioning.
Seconds into the re-start, Largs found space down the left and Phillips provided a good low cross to the far post which was tucked home by John Robertson.
Largs added some deserved sheen to the scoreline as Gault chipped the ball to the onrushing Gary Phillips who struck an exquisite side volley home from near the penalty spot bang on full-time.
