Largs Thistle have issued a warning to a small element of their fans to clean up their act after the club received a complaint from Kilsyth Rangers Supporters Club.

The club say they have received a complaint about abusive chanting directed at deaf player Philip John Dolan who scored the opening goal in Saturday’s encounter, and Largs Thistle F.C say they are treating the matter seriously.

Secretary Morag Soutter said: “We have received a complaint from the Kilsyth Supporters Club in relation to abuse of one of their players. Some of their fans have said that they have never heard such language - and have said that they might not come on Saturday to the replay. We will have committee members in the stand on Saturday to address the matter. We really want to stamp down on this kind of behaviour - it is as bad a racial abuse.

“It is the Scottish Cup which means it gets higher profile. We are expecting a representative from the SJFA to be in attendance this weekend. One of the Kilsyth supporters said that he has been going to their games since the 1940s and had never heard such abuse.” Former club president Margaret Brown, who recently left the Thistle committee after 10 years service, said: “I heard the chanting. Kilsyth supporters and committee members were telling me that this small element of fans - there were about ten of them - were not doing the club any favours at all. Their language was atrocious and I am pleased to hear that the club are doing something about it. I said to Kilsyth that I could only apologise, and that I would report the matter to the club committee.” Alcohol will be removed from anyone attempting to enter Barrfields with drinks this Saturday, and drunken fans will not be allowed entry.
