Largs Thistle boss Sandy MacLean has said it is all to play for as they head into their penultimate league fixture against Cumnock this Saturday.

It is a 2pm kick-off at Barrfields Park, as Largs look to net a vital win to keep their survival hopes alive for another week, and keep the pressure on their rivals.

Largs supporters will be hoping that Arthurlie draw with Pollok as their relegation rivals meet in Barrhead this weekend. However, Largs need to concern themselves with getting maximum points.

At present, Alan Gilbride is doubtful due to injury, while Willie Boyd has returned to training after a recent knock but Saturday may be too quick for him to come back to the side.

Also in defence, Barry McLaughlin missed last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Kilwinning Rangers because of a niggle but should be back in contention this week.

Sandy said that Cumnock have been something of a bogey side for Largs over the years, and said he hoped his players would try and lay that ghost to rest.

He said: “It is a huge fixture for us - we need to get three points. If the game finishes in a draw, it is really difficult for us, as our goal difference is poor. The goal difference is virtually a point against us at the moment - we need to get the points in the bag, and then you don’t know what might happen.

“Cumnock have been a bit of a bogey team to us - and we have played them twice this season, and lost both, so we want to go and change that.” Largs had been due to play Hurlford United on Easter Monday in a grand stand finish to the league for Thistle but the SJFA have now cancelled this fixture.

Thistle’s friendly against Buffs last weekend was a useful exercise, and Largs had two goals chopped off in the opening ten minutes.

Sandy said: “It was a good first half, and we could have scored six or seven, but we were only 2-1 up at the interval. We changed the shape of the team in the first half and it worked out fine. We were disappointed in the display in the 2nd half. It was good for Euan Lindsay to get on the scoresheet, as he has missed games due to suspension, and it is good to have him back in the reckoning.” In the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup, holders Largs play Maybole at home in the quarter finals, on Saturday April 26. Thistle have a chance of another cup final as if they beat Maybole, as they would have home advantage in the semi against Lugar, Kilwinning or Hurlford.

However, Sandy warned: “Maybole are a good side and they are no pushovers. They have some very good players, which have interested me in the past. It is a big fixture for us, which we are capable of winning, but Maybole are a very decent side.”
