Following penalty heartbreak in the Kilbirnie tournament, Largs Thistle boss Bryan Slavin is wanting a positive reaction from his players for this Saturday’s friendly against Petershill, 2pm kickoff at Barrfields.

After the disappointment of finishing fourth at the James Glen Memorial trophy tournament at Kilbirnie, Bryan admitted that he wasn’t impressed by the standard of the display, but is prepared to cut some slack on the basis that his side had played three matches since Wednesday.

Looking towards Saturday’s clash, Bryan said: “This is a real opportunity for us to bounce back.

“On this occasion, we are the lower league opposition and we want to go and apply ourselves, and we will work on a specific shape on the pitch. Over 90 minutes, we are still on an unbeaten run, and we are really looking forward to the visit of Petershill, who are a very good team.” But looking back at the weekend, Bryan said: “I was expecting a bit more to be honest. We were a bit tentative, especially on the Sunday against Renfrew.

“It was a bit more acceptable against Rutherglen, amd although we weren’t great in the first half, we were much better in the second half.

"I felt over the two games we didn’t really impose ourselves at all in the game.

“It could have been down to tiredness, after playing on Wednesday evening, and I am still confident by the time the Ardagh Cup comes around, we will be on our game
