The sportscotland watersports centre is hosting The Great Cumbrae Kayak Race on Sunday 16 August, and is looking for paddlers!

Experience is necessary and participants must be able to self rescue or roll. The event is open to competition racers, as well as those who just want to ‘try out’ racing in a fun environment, and the event also includes a junior competition ‘mini course’ of two miles for 9-14 years old category.

The main event is for adults and teeangers 15+, for the 10.5 mile around the island challenge, and the watersports centre are wanting you to please bring all your own equipment on the day including kayak and clothing.

The registration is between 10am-12 noon at Cumbrae Watersports Centre, followed by the starting gun at 1pm (race briefing at 12.30).

Pre-registration is needed by 9 August: Secure your place by booking at www.nationalcentrecumbrae.org.uk/kayakrace The prizes are : 1st place £100 towards any course of your choice at the centre. 1st place ‘Mini’ race: £50 towards any course of your choice at the centre, and trophies/medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places!
