Largs Academy were in a field of their own as they won the Ayrshire Schools rugby final last week.

On Thursday 20 November, the Under-16s rugby team played in the Ayrshire Schools Final against Queen Margaret Academy.

The final score was a victorious 34-22 to Largs Academy. It was a close game with both teams playing very well and at half time the scores were tied. In the second half Largs Academy started very strongly and were beginning to win the contact area with their aggression and because they were beginning to link up play to create opportunities to score. Some excellent individual runs from Cameron Hambleton, Drew Lewis and James O'Donnell who set up four tries! The full squad of 24 players were all on the pitch at some point and were delighted when the final whistle blew! The scorers in the game were Drew Lewis, Cameron Hambleton, Ronan McEvoy and Daniel Eltringham.

Mr Murchie of Largs Academy PE department commented that it was very difficult to select individuals for notable performances as the team worked so well together but he felt there were outstanding contributions from Drew Lewis as Captain who lead from the front in both attack and defence, James O'Donnell for excellent work rate in defence making lots of tackles and great support play from Cameron Hambleton
