It was a successful finish to the season for Largs Thistle as they held their Player of the Year celebration in JG Sharp’s on Sunday. The club performed a marvellous turnaround at the end of the season, as they escaped the jaws of relegation in the final month with an eight game unbeaten run, including six victories. Thistle boss Bryan Slavin gave a clear message to the club and its supporters that they are aiming for the league title next season in a rabble rousing speech. The supporters’ player of the year was Creag Little, the players’ player of the year was James Marks, who also scooped the top scorer award, and the committee player of the year was skipper Kevin Struthers. Nicky Jamieson won the young player of the year award, and the management of Bryan Slavin and Stuart Davidson were rewarded for turning the club’s fortunes around with a special appreciation award. It was confirmed at the function that former player of the year, Iain Fisher, was heading to pastures new and had signed for Hurlford, and he also received an award for his contribution to the club over recent years. Three committee members shared the Archie Dickie memorial for their endeavours behind the scenes - Morag Soutter, Don McKillop and Arthur Rippe. And Thistle President Martin Phillips thanked Peter Connor for the organisation behind last Saturday’s Thistle Community Cup tournament involving local teams. Thanks also went to Don McKillop who provided the buffet at the awards event, and Stewart McConnell who donated the trophies.
