The younger swimmers from North Ayrshire Swimming Club were in great form during the weekend of 7/8 February.

Five of them competed at the West District Age Groups in the 50m pool at East Kilbride. A new structure introduced by West District committee ensures a high standard with only the very best from each age group being able to qualify.

Local swimmers were in fine form with a huge medal haul, as over 50 clubs from Oban to Stranraer were competing at this prestigious meet.

Fraser Kelly, Largs was also in great form winning gold in the 200 back stroke and silver in the 400 free, 200IM and 200 free, and Abby Kane received a personal best in her 200 backstroke.

Junior Head Coach Alan Dickson was delighted with his swimmers performance over the weekend and said it was great to see all the hours of hard work in training paying off for them.

Three of the club’s senior swimmers took part in a prestigious long course meet last weekend (6-8 Feb). The Derventio Meet held at Sheffield attracts swimmers from all over the UK as it is one of the last meets that swimmers can try to qualify for the British Trials later this year.

Jennifer King of Largs was one of the trio who travelled to Sheffield for four events each. and qualified for the 200 backstroke final.

All the North Ayrshire swimmers swam well against strong competition.
