A young Largs swimmer has scooped three gold medals at a championship event held in Cumbernauld.

Fraser Kelly was one of a young talented bunch of swimmers from North Ayrshire Amateur Swimming Club travelled at the weekend to take part in the West District Short Course (25m) Championships.

Fraser, 12, was on great form scooping three gold medals for his 1500m, 400m, and 200m freestyle and another gold in the 400m Individual Medley. All these swims were new personal bests for Fraser. On top of that he also gained silver in the 200m fly and a bronze medal for the 100m fly.

The West District covers 50 swimming clubs from Oban to Stranraer and from Islay to Bo’ness. The Junior Age Group is for 10–13 year olds only.

Due to changes in the rules last year, qualifying for this event has become harder and the competition on the day is intense.

With only five swimmers at the weekend meet, the club still managed to come an exceptional 3rd overall in the team rankings against much bigger clubs. They swam fantastically well with 26 out of 29 swims new personal bests times.

This outstanding effort at a high level meet is testament to the dedication and hard work this young group show week in week out at training. Sharon McIntyre, Alan Dickson and Lisa Grant were all delighted with the juniors performance.

Sharon McIntyre, Head Coach said she had never been at a competition where her swimmers achieved such a high level of personal best times.
