A young Largs swimmer who broke a UK record TWICE in one day, has put herself into strong contention for the Paralympics in Rio later this year.

On Sunday Abby Kane achieved the qualification time for consideration for selection for the Games in Brazil.

The Largs Academy first year pupil swam two seconds faster than the qualification standard, broke the British record s13 record twice in one day, and achieved the Youth Gold medal in the 100m Backstroke.

Abby is pictured with swimming coach Sharon McIntyre at the qualification event held at Tollcross.

Proud mum Karen Jensen said: "Without first class coaching from Sharon McIntyre Abby's goal would not have been possible."

Abby, of Braeside Avenue, is a member of North Ayrshire Amateur Swimming Club, and has been swimming competitively since aged 7, and represented Scotland in Manchester in September where she has achieved personal bests, and more recently she was selected by Scottish swimming.
