A young Paralympian swimming star of the future has revealed the secret behind her early rises as she targets gold in Rio later this summer.
And Abby Kane, 12, will be joined by award winning coach Sharon McIntyre who believes the best is yet to come at the forthcoming Rio Games.
Sharon, who lives in West Kilbride, has built up a strong friendship with Abby over six years of training, and is looking forward to heading to Brazil with her protege.
The Largs Academy pupil swam two seconds faster than the qualification standard, broke the British record s13 record twice in one day, and achieved the Youth Gold medal in the 100m Backstroke.
And Sharon has been funded by British Paraswimming and Scottish Swimming to join another Scottish coach to provide support for Abby in her exciting quest, including accommodation and flights.
Sharon is well known in swimming circles, and her thorough approach to coaching has already been recognised with the Scottish Development Coach of the Year Award from The British Swimming Coaching Association in 2010.
Sharon left North Ayrshire Swimming Club in March after taking Abby through the swimming programme at Vikingar, before joining Ren 96, and Abby followed, so it means 5.30am starts at Neilston swimming pool.
Sharon said: "It is great that Abby has been breaking all these records, and she has done remarkably well. She has smashed every record going, and I am keeping my fingers crossed she can break another wee record at the Paralympics."
Sharon's direct approach has helped push Abby to the limits. Having built up such a strong friendship, Sharon is ever the perfectionist, and said: "I will tell you the truth - I told her if she didn't get the time for the Paralympics, then I would quit my job. She qualified, but my words were that she turned too slow, and I told her 'You can go faster in the finals.'
"Even though she has broken records - I still feel there is room for improvement."
Sharon and Abby head to Rio for ten days on 7 September, but have a busy schedule leading up to the great occasion, including swims in Liverpool, Manchester and Berlin.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Sharon admitted: "It is going to be a rollercoaster, and there will be a lot of training. She has the British championships at Sheffield, and then another four weeks of aerobic and endurance work. I won't be changing a thing in terms of her training, and will be keeping everything running as normal as possible."
Abby is competing in the 50m front crawl, 100m front crawl, 400m front crawl, and 100m back crawl, and admits: "Heading to Rio is really exciting. I am not really an early bird but I have a long conversation with my mum when I get up in the morning so I am awake, and then Sharon sings in the car, joining in with the songs on the radio."
Proud mum Karen Jensen said: "Without first class coaching from Sharon McIntyre, Abby's goal would not have been possible."
Abby will celebrate her 13th birthday just prior to making her Paralympic debut.
