The RNLI's SOS Day is the charity's biggest annual fundraising day and the Largs Branch is holding a "Soup on Saturday" Lunch on the 30th January at the Clark Memorial Church Hall from 11.30am-2pm.

Branches all over Scotland are asked to come up with an acronym of SOS and make it into a fundraising event.

Cathy Holgate from the Largs Branch said: "It is a good way to start the year; beat the winter blues and help support the lifesaving work of the RNLI. There will be a choice of soup, filled rolls and cakes, a tombola, and craft and souvenir stalls, so we do hope that people will drop in during their shopping trip, or other activities in Largs; join in and give us their support. The money raised will help the RNLI equip and train its crews locally and in the rest of the UK".

The running costs of the RNLI are £378,000 a day for an active fleet of 332 lifeboats and over 100 relief lifeboats. It costs £160,000 for an Atlantic 75 lifeboat like the one in Largs, which last year responded to 40 call-outs and has already had two this year! All its funds are raised from voluntary donations and events, so the Largs Branch is hoping to have a really good turn out of supporters.
