The award winning North Ayrshire Schools’ Concert Band will be doing a ‘mad dash’ around North Ayrshire in a bid to perform in as many towns as possible over the weekend of 7 and 8 June, including Largs and Millport.

The concert band have had an incredible year winning a Platinum award at the regional heats of the National Concert Band Festival in October (2013) and a Silver award at the national competition in Birmingham in April.

Band on the run To celebrate their success and to end the school year in true style the band has decided to take their music out to the public with this ‘Band on the Run’ tour.

Made up of pupils from eight of the nine North Ayrshire secondary schools, the band members will take the tour to each of their home towns. Visiting 10 locations, they will arrive at each town, play a few tunes then pack up and dash off to the next venue.

North Ayrshire Schools Concert Band member, Fraser Blain, from Arran High School said: “We’re very excited about Band on the Run. We’re all proud of what we’ve accomplished, and the tour will be a great way to end what has been a fantastic year of continued success for us and will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the band around our home of North Ayrshire!” Residents are encouraged to go along and support the band on their jam-packed weekend tour.

Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, Councillor Alan Hill said: “The schools’ concert band has certainly had a very successful year thanks to their hard work and commitment for musical excellence. “I wish them all the best of luck for the incredibly busy and exciting weekend they have ahead of them.” On Saturday 7 June they will play at the following venues: 10am – Tesco Kilbirnie; 11am – Dalry Cross; 11.45am – Kilwinning Main Street;12.30pm – Irvine Mall; 2.30pm – Stevenston Cross; 3.15pm – Ardrossan ferry terminal; 5.35pm – Douglas Hotel, Brodick; On Sunday they will play the following venues: 10am – Seamill Hydro Gardens; 11.30am – Largs Promenade; 1pm – Garrison House Gardens, Millport.
