The Commonwealth Fencing Championships is only a few weeks away, and Largs is busy preparing for the arrival of competitors from around the world.

A total of 350 athletes from 30 countries are coming for one of the world's fastest sports which will coming to Inverclyde Sports Centre for six days, from Monday 10 November-Saturday 15 November.

Fencing will be taking place throughout each day with the finals and medal matches starting at around 5pm.

If you are inspired by what you have seen, there will be opportunities for people of all ages to try out fencing for themselves with helpers on hand throughout the day to explain the arts of the dynamic sport.

The Commonwealth Veterans Fencing Championships is being held at the same venue and starts the day after the senior event finishes.

Part of the Homecoming Scotland campaign, the Commonwealth Fencing Championships is being run by Scottish Fencing on behalf of the Commonwealth Fencing Federation.

According to the official website, the sport at its highest level requires competitors to be athletic and highly strategic - every opponent brings new challenges.

The website states: "Fencing is a modern and technical sport, with advanced electronic scoring systems that make it easy for spectators to see who has landed a hit. But it is also steeped in history with the first documented fencing rules being written in the mid 1400s. Fencing is also one of three sports that have appeared in every modern Olympic Games since 1896.

For spectactors, entry will be free all day and medal matches will be ticketed at £10 per adult, £5 per child, or £50/£25 for all six medal matches.

You can purchase tickets online at www.cfc2014.org or in person from Largs Library.

The action will also be streamed live on the official Commonwealth Fencing Championship website from early afternoon onwards.
