Four musicians bring the music of Ivor Novello to a special show at St Columba’s Parish Church this Sunday at 2.30pm.

This script has been written by John Cairney, Scottish writer, actor, painter and raconteur, well known to Ayrshire audiences for his portrayal of Robert Burns in “There was a Man.” Ivor Novello’s story and songs are brought to life by an actor, two singers and a pianist. Prepare yourself for nostalgia, romance and showbiz glamour, and a homeward journey humming tunes you thought you’d forgotten!

Featuring Phil Gault (Ivor); Daisy Henderson (soprano); Elizabeth McCormack (mezzo soprano) and Bill Kean (pianist), the show has already received great acclaim from its shows across Scotland, including Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Ayr Gaiety Theatre and Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

Ivor Novello was a man of the theatre above all else, and a musician of real worth, brilliantly capturing the ease and diffident charm of the world between the wars. The songs he wrote are certainly not forgotten. ‘Waltz of My Heart’, ‘Some Day My Heart Will Awake’, ‘Keep The Home Fires Burning’, ‘We’ll Gather Lilacs’.

Not only was he a composer of lavish musical plays, he was a film star appearing in two Hitchcock films, and a Hollywood screenwriter, recognised as coming up with the immortal phrase – “Me Tarzan, you Jane!” Tickets are available from Information Bureau (next to Largs Station) or at the St Columba’s Heritage Centre (open 12 - 4pm except Sundays) 01475 689855 and at the door.
