Largs Events have pulled out all the stops for this weekend’s Family Fun extravaganza.

The seafront spectacular, hosted on the open green space at Broomfields, May Street, is a great setting for fun rides, activities, and live music on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, 12 noon-6pm.

There will be a new dedicated toddlers’ area this year, an extended marquee, and the whole family can be entertained by the Drakes of Hazzard as they are who herded over a duck-friendly assault course.

There will be two performances at 1.30pm and 4pm on Saturday.

Having already appeared on ‘Blue Peter’, people are amazed at the skill as man and dog work together in harmony to control, direct and navigate a troop of fearless Indian runner ducks around an obstacle course.

Mark Wylie has taken the Drakes all over the UK, and is excited to be bringing it to Largs for the first time. He said: “It is full of thrills and spills, with unique obstacles and stunts from Bridge over the River Quack to the Tunnel of Count Duckula and the only helter skelter built for ducks! The ducks are very well looked after, highly trained, and well pampered!

“There are no surprises, no frights, and they know exactly what is happening.” Also on Saturday, there will be ‘Chainsaw Crafts’ of Dunoon, with spectacular sculptures by Andy Maclachlan. Largs Events will be holding a very special raffle during their fun weekend - with the winner taking home the unique chainsaw carving.

The runner up will receive £100 in cash, while Largs Golf Club have generously donated a fourball at the club.

There will be giant assault course which is 70 feet long, and a ‘moonwalk’ inflatable castle, a 60ft by 60ft inflatable track with Suzuki quadbikes, Body Zorb football, archery, Largs Thistle’s Beat the Goalie competition and bottle stall, and Lazer Quest. A wrecking ball event, which was very popular last year, will be returning!

While there will be no Highland Games this year, there will be a live music stage on the Sunday of the event including performances from The Wherries, ceilidh band ‘Flung Aboot’, and Largs band Crisis, who were big hits at Largs Live. There will also be an open mike stage both days.

At each end of the stage in the marquee, there is a beer tent area, and a tea, coffee and cake section, which will be provided by Cafe Bon Bon. Ian Murdoch, chair of Largs Events, said: “It definitely has more of a hospitality edge this year, and it will be a great facility as it means that wherever you are sitting, you will be able to enjoy the live music and entertainment. Others have T in the Park, but we have tea on the prom!” The Fire Brigade, Clyde Coastguard and Firth of Clyde Rowing Club will be coming, and have their own displays.

Ian explained: “We also hope to have military personnel and forces vehicles on show - and we will have skiffs from both Fairlie and Cumbrae on the shoreline.” There will be a large number of varied craft stands and local traders including vintage ice cream vans - there might be some availability for craft stalls on the weekend. The traditional Tug of War contest gets underway at 3pm on Saturday, and Largs Events are looking for local teams to take part. If you want to get involved, contact Ian on the above number.

Don’t forget the marvellous and beautiful kites will again be brightening up the seafront with their exquisite colours, provided by Andrew Beattie of Tug.com from Skelmorlie, including some new kites this year.

All day wrist bands for the children’s activities and rides are £5.
