Margaret Mcalpine, of Largs Embroiderers Club, said: “A total of around 20 people have worked on our wall hanging ‘Through the garden gate’, and it includes a range of different embroidery styles.

“In terms of the textiles we used, you name it and we used it. The embroidery techniques included making flowers from felt and using buttons. It has been in many people’s houses, as each person has added their own personal perspective to it.

“By coming along to the Barony on Saturday, you can take part in a project we are starting for next year. It’s going to be called ‘inches’ and will involve making inch square pieces. People could just do one if they wanted, but we will do as many of them as we can, and probably collect them together and make some sort of pattern.

“It is interesting to see different techniques throughout the year, and how different people bring their own artistic eye to the textiles.” Mrs McAlpine, a former maths teacher at Largs academy said: “There must be at least two dozen different embroidery techniques within our wall hanging - and it is very pleasing on the eye.

“We have had a good connection with Maggie Broadley at the Barony Church, and we used to use their gallery space. It is great to be hosting a Textile Art Day at the centre from 10am until 4pm.
