“He was just inspirational in everything he did. He was a hero to his family and the most professional person you could ever meet.” The community of Largs was in mourning this week after talented young father, Allan Bunyan, of Sinclair Drive, tragically died in a kite-surfing accident on the Cumbrae Watersports Centre on Friday evening. The 47 year old was rigging up the kite when a freak gust of wind took hold of the kite, and knocked him off balance and he died instantly of a fatal head injury after hitting concrete. He is survived by wife Nancy and two children, Ryan, 13, and Allanah, 11. His brother Craig said: “It was just tragic. The whole family is devastated. He was just an inspiration and highly professional in everything he did, he was a hero to his family. He was a devoted family man like his father before him. “Ski-ing and water sports were his main interests and he was a professional instructor. Any water sport, and Allan was involved in it. He was also a highly qualified yachtsmaster’s instructor. Principal of Inverclyde, John Kent said: “Allan was a man who loved activity, be it on the mountain skiing, through forests cycling, canoeing down rivers or sailing on the sea. “He was passionate about the outdoor world, which he shared with Nancy, and his two children. Allan, along with Nancy, took great pride in the children’s achievements, especially in gymnastics, and always keenly supported the children’s interests in sport. “Allan was an extremely well respected instructor, not only working at the highest levels but also enthusing beginners to experience all outdoor activities. He will be sadly missed by all who came in to contact with him. “Our thoughts are with the family, all their friends and colleagues at this tragic and difficult time.” Sportscotland Chair, Louise Martin, visited Cumbrae on Saturday, to meet with staff, following the accident. Louise Martin said: “It is with great sadness that we heard of Allan’s tragic death on Friday evening. Allan had worked at the Centre over a number of years and most recently over the last 12 months. He was a dedicated and skilled instructor and will be sadly missed by all at Cumbrae and Inverclyde. “On behalf of sportscotland I would like to extend our sincere condolences to his wife Nancy, family and friends at this difficult time.”
