One way systems, new taxi ranks, bus stops and parking for the disabled are included in the long awaited traffic management plans in Largs town centre with Tron Place set to be pedestrianised. Plans for a pay on display parking have been ditched with the consultation period for traffic plans due to last until 12 November.

The proposals are on display in Moorburn Council chambers as of now with important changes to the layout of the Main Street and surrounding streets including Aitken Street, Boyd Street, Nelson Street, and Crawford Street.

The revised proposals include * Pedestrianising Tron Place with the only vehicular access for loading stock for shops between 7pm and 10am.

* New traffic crossings are proposed at Crawford Street, Bath Street/Pierhead double set, Nelson Street junctions on Main Road, and Nelson Street/Boyd Street * One way streets from Aitken Street to Gateside Street, Boyd Street and Nelson Street * Waterside Street will be retained as a two way to assist access to areas north of Main Street for south approaching traffic * Taxis would operate from a revised layout at Hyndman Green and from a section of Crawford Street * The remaining Hyndman Green area would provide parking for disabled people * North and Southbound bus stops to be located on Main Street in the vicinity of the railway station - the northbound bus stop would coincide with a loading bay.

A spokesperson for Roads and Transportation Services at North Ayrshire Council said: 'Following a formal consultation process exercise in November 2006 on traffic management proposals for Largs, North Ayrshire Council has considered the comments and reviewed the entire scheme. It has been decided to reduce the scale of the proposals to encompass core traffic management within the town centre area and the A78 trunk road to assist traffic movement.

'The proposals therefore will not include the introduction of a controlled parking zone with an associated residents" parking scheme. Waiting restrictions are proposed at strategic locations to assist the operation of the proposed one-way scheme.' The council"s rescheduling of pedestrianising Tron Place after it was initially put on hold is seen as advantageous to the council. A spokeswoman explained: 'The council considered that the earlier proposal to pedestrianise Tron Place would be beneficial to the amenity and attractiveness of the town centre. In view of representations made, the proposal is to restrict all vehicular access while allowing loading to Tron Place between 7pm and 10am.' Previous proposals for the layout and access to the shore car park are retained, meaning traffic approaching from the north would not be permitted to turn right into the car park. These vehicles would be diverted via Bath Street and Fort Street to enter the car park from the south. The banning of right turns are retained to Main Street to Gogo Street and Waterside Street to Main Street.' The amended proposals are on display at Moorburn House from 22 October for three weeks. During that period, from 11am-7pm on Tuesday 30 October, Thursday 1 November and Tuesday 6 November a Roads and Transportation member of staff will be in attendance to answer any queries.

Comments on the proposals must be made in writing by 12 November to the Head of Roads and Transportation Services, Perceton House, Irvine, KA11 2AL.' * Amey Highways are currently installing a new traffic crossing on the Main Road near Waterside Street.
