Moves are afoot to retain Moorburn Chambers in Largs, it has been claimed.
At a recent meeting of Largs Community Council, its members were told that there was new hope among elected representatives that the historic property could be kept, despite North Ayrshire Council stating their intention to sell it.
Last year, NAC announced that they would be transferring most of their Moorburn-based services to the North West Area Resource Centre next door at Brooksby and controversially placing the B-listed premises on the property market.
Wedding ceremonies are expected to take place at Brooksby in future with the registry office at Moorburn due to close.
However, speaking at the community council, committee member Tom Marshall stated his belief that the sale of the chambers was still very much 'in the melting pot'.
He said: 'Apparently there are moves afoot to try to reverse the decision to sell Moorburn.' Councillor Stewart Sutherland stated: 'It"s a shame you get rid of these buildings. The character of this is great.' Then, referring to plans to hold wedding ceremonies at Brooksby in future, chairman Ian Murdoch commented: 'How many people would rather see weddings carried out here (Moorburn) than between the doctor"s, the social work and the car park?'
