The big day is almost here! No, I"m not writing this before New Year (well, I am actually but I am thinking of next week).
Monday, January 7, to be precise. No, not the schools going back or those who have been off for the whole duration of the festive period.
January 7 is the date when the much-vaunted start will be made to the restoration of Nardinis cafe.
Director John Fox produced a written statement for local councillors and planners and we have a copy of it, vowing to begin physical work on the derelict site on Monday.
In celebration of the fact their next door neighbours, the Brisbane House Hotel, are putting up a prize to see who finishes their project first. The hotel or the cafe.
Nardinis should be open for business by June, according to Mr Fox and, similarly, the Brisbane House Hotel development of its new enlarged conference and banqueting suite has the same target.
The hotel which is staying open throughout the work will put up a prize for whichever job is completed first. Could they be keeping their own champagne?
