A LARGS man has launched a top business career in Houston, Texas.

Hugh Scott, 37, who lives with wife Vivian and four year old American born twins, Kirsty Agnes and Brodie, emigrated to the USA and worked in Denver, Colarado for 2 years.

A former pupil of St Mary"s Primary and St Andrew"s Academy he is a graduate of Glasgow University where he gained his honours degree in maths. He went on to Warwick and gained a PHD in IT before working in the City of London with UBS and later Kleinwort Benson. Hugh was appointed a main board director of the German Bank, Dresner at the age of 29.

Hugh, whose father, also Hugh, owned a financial services company and estate agents in Largs joined Direct Energy in Houston, a subsidiary of Centrica plc, owners of British Gas. Hugh senior went on to be the controversial chairman and owner of Morton Football Club.

Not only is he Chief Information Officer and vice-president of Direct Energy of Houston which has a turnover of $8 billion annually but he won an award as the 'One to watch' among American businessmen for the future for the national CIO magazine. He moves in the business circles where he rubs shoulders with billionaires like Bill Gates and Steve Forbes.

Recently Hugh has undertaken a part time role as a technical journalist - Mr Gadget - appraising new hi tech gadgets such as the I Phone as they come on to the market.

He has 3 brothers: George, 36, a Sgt in the army serving in Cambridge; Christopher, 27, a PE teacher at Lenzie Academy, Joseph, 19, and a Law student at Dundee University. His 4 sisters are Angela (1991 Brisbane Queen), a married social worker, Elizabeth, a training manager for Dell, Mhairi, a Doctor in Dundee, and Clare who works for HBOS corporate division.

Whenever he is home visiting his father in Kilmacolm he tries to take the family to Largs for a fish supper!
