Manchester United and Celtic favourite Lou Macari recalls going up to Inverclyde Sports Centre as a young lad, and admiring the legends of Scottish football in awe and wanting to live the dream.

In the Largs man"s autobiography, he looks back at the highs and lows of an astonishing career but also speaks openly about the devastating loss of his son Jonathan who committed suicide as a teenager, putting life into perspective but also leaving a heart-broken father behind.

Jonathan"s body was discovered hanging in a wood by a man on his way to work. Macari has never found out what really happened. Jon, a very promising player for Nottingham Forest, was closer to his mum, Dale Marie, but she doesn"t know either.

Lou was only a baby when his family moved from Scotland to London and stayed there for another eight years.

Lou"s father was recalled as a hard worker who gave all his hours to the catering industry and back home his parents ran the successful and well-known 'Macari Cafe' in Largs.

There was Nardini"s at one end, the Castelvecchis" Moorings at the other, and Macari"s were based in the middle in Gallowgate Street where Ladbrokes bookies is now...perhaps appropriate in light of Lou"s appetite for punting.
