The finals of the various Largs Golf Club Championship competitions were played in ideal conditions recently on a course set up to provide the ultimate test for the competitors.

All matches were keenly contested with the Club Championship being decided on the 35th hole. The new Club Champion, Rory Acheson, a 19 year old youth member of the club, had to play at the very top of his game to defeat past champion Alan Ewing.

Rory, a former Largs Routenburn champion, had to play some wonderful golf to beat Alan as only playing a very high standard against such a great golfer would he have stood any chance.

The game was very 'nip and tuck' with neither player taking any more than 1 or 2 ahead at any time. Rory is one of only a handful of local golfers to have won both Largs golf championships.

He has taken up a greenkeeping apprenticeship at Routenburn. He is pictured receiving the Kelburn trophy from ladies captain Elinor Henderson as club captain Gordon McGhee looks on in the clubhouse.
