Cunninghame North MSP Kenny Gibson has been in talks with NAC regarding flooding problems in the Brisbane Glen area following the flash flooding in September.

A list of improvements have been drawn up by the local authority which Mr Gibson has said he is pleased with in a bid to avert future flooding problems in the area.

Mr Gibson took the matter up with Mr Bob Hopewell, NAC's Supervisory Engineer, Flooding and Structural Design, who has been investigating the matter.

Mr Hopewell stated: "The culvert, which crosses Brisbane Glen Road and runs through the Raillies estate to the Noddsdale Water, has previously been checked along its full length and sections have collapsed in the past. These have generally been located in private gardens and are the responsibility of the property owner. The Council, nevertheless, in light of the potential flooding issues had carried out repairs without prejudice.

"On the evening of 22 September, the intensity of the rainfall and other debris was washed into the culvert despite the presence of a trash screen and this probably was the main cause of the blockage.

"Another problem was the collapse of a small private access bridge to a property further up the burn. This caused the burn to flow down an access track onto Brisbane Glen Road. Furthermore, some of the floodwater flowed northwards along Brisbane Glen Road to the low point at the junction with the Rise giving the impression that the Rise estate was the main cause of the flooding.
