As well as a crater on the moon, Sir Thomas Brisbane has been immortalised after being named after an asteroid in a region of the solar system between Mars and Jupiter.

The curator of the Brisbane Planetarium in Australia revealed the surprise fact during a presentation at St Columba's Heritage Centre in Largs recently.

Mr Mark Rigby said that Largs needs to do more to promote its links and historic ties with Sir Thomas Brisbane and believes he was an influential thinker who was years ahead of his time. Full story in this week's Largs and Millport Weekly News. See video and interview links below.
