A picture of the opening of the Minstrel Cafe (now Halliday's Chemist) in the 1960s attracted a flurry of contributions. Reader Stuart Belli said: " My grandpa Bruno Belli worked here from the start, and I was born in 1969 and my parents used to go here before i was born. To think, I worked with Georgio Castlevecchio, who worked with my papa, and I also worked for Leonello too....and Carlo the chef used to work at both places...I remember my cousin Vicky (Bruno's neice) working there too for pocket money!" David Sanderson said: "Thank you for posting these old pictures. I moved from Largs to the USA in 1984." While an old picture of Largs Prom, including the old steamer ticket office, resulted in Casita Rus stating: "I remember my brother getting his finger bitten by a monkey on the pier head." Pictures of Margaret Thatcher visiting Nardinis in 1983 also sparked a range of memories including Daniel Gilfeather recalling how the "iron lady" showed a softer side, and gave a waiter a £20 tip, while another reader, Kris Irgens said: "Love the Picture of the Day feature." In reference to Thatcher's visit, Daniel added: "I was at Fairlie Primary when she came to visit and the Head teacher refused a request to take us out of school to wave at her as she drove by. Can't think why."
