The Pencil monument could finally be illuminated to mark the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Largs - with a �30,000 pot being put aside to fund an exciting 'year of celebration'.
The long-mooted project was resurrected last year by Largs Community Council member Harry McEachan, and it received the backing of elected North Coast Councillor Alan Hill.
However, while North Ayrshire Council told them at the time that it was a "low priority because of the high cost of the project", it now appears it might finally see the light of day.
