North Ayrshire Council will be improving and upgrading the coastal path at The Pencil in Largs.
A total of 300,000 is being invested in the Largs coastal path - which runs between Anthony Road to Largs Yacht Haven. Funding was obtained from Sustrans Scotland's community links fund and Largs seafront car park fund.
The work - which will take place near The Pencil - coincides with the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Largs in 1263, and it will enhance cycling access.
Councillor John Ferguson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: "The coastal path at The Pencil in Largs is well used - particularly in the summer. The upgrade of the path will make significant improvements and ensure that everyone can make use of it.
"While there will be some disruption, it will be a boost to the local area and ensure that visitors and residents can make the best use of the path." Work is set to be completed in March.
