Largs lifeboat R A Wilson and her volunteer crew were diverted to a call from Belfast Coastguard to attend a diver who had made a rapid ascent from the popular dive wreck.
The incident happened at the Wallachia which lies close to Toward point, rescue helicopter 177 from Prestwick also attended.
The call came through on Sunday 23rd at 1.08pm whilst the RNLI were on their routine exercise.
The diver was winched aboard the helicopter for immediate transfer to hospital.
Meantime Largs lifeboat remained on scene until all divers had safely returned back on board their dive ribs, the lifeboat then escorted the ribs back to Largs Yacht haven.
Having made sure the remaining divers were safe back on shore the lifeboat returned to station to be made ready for her next service.
The Wallachia is a popular wreck with divers, she was an Iron Steamship built in Southampton & belonged to William Burrell & Son of Glasgow, after colliding with the Norwegian Steamer Flos on 29th of September 1895 25 minutes after the collision the Wallachia sank with a terrific explosion as she plunged beneath the surface.
